A massive match in the NPSL Golden Gate Conference playoff standings, the Golden Lions will look to avenge their only loss of the season when the visitors CD Aguiluchos from Oakland come to town for the second clash of the year.
The two teams last met opening weekend that saw a deflected first half goal separate the two teams at the final whistle. Despite FC Davis dominating much of the play, they could not find an equalizer as the Augiluchos goalkeeper won Man of the Match for his performance shutting out the Golden Lions.
CD Aguiluchos currently have an undefeated record of 5 wins, 0 losses and 2 ties. The Eagles attack is spearheaded in the midfield by former Sacramento Republic standout Octavio Guzman who is accompanied by two time NPSL Golden Boot winner and current leading scorer Simon Rawnsley.
In addition to their potent attack, Augiluchos has only given up 5 goals in seven matches, putting their goal difference at a conference best +9. The Eagles will look to keep their two point advantage over second place El Farolito who barely escaped with a tie last weekend against FC Davis.
The men from Davis will look to start adding tallies to the wins column after hitting the midway point in the season with five ties in seven matches. A combination of bad luck and poor finishing haunted the team through the first stretch of their season and the team will need to start putting the ball away if they are going to make a run at the final playoff spot.
Currently the Golden Lions sit one point away from East Bay Stompers for third place and they will rely on Miguel Acevedo who has nearly 50% of the teams goals this season to carry them into the playoffs.
Kick off is this Sunday, 4:00pm at Aggie Football Stadium. A Mother’s Day special, as Davis takes on Oakland.
