2019 Causeway Clasico Full Of Pressure

On Saturday night, the 2019 Causeway Clasico takes place with Davis needing a tie or win to clinch the Golden Gate Conference regular season title for the first time in club history.

The game holds massive implications for both teams, as Sacramento is fighting to hold on to their second place league standing with two games remaining.

Currently, Davis is the only team that has clinched a playoff birth. The lowest the Lions can finish is second, which does not guarantee a home playoff game.

A win this Saturday night will give FC Davis the advantage they want, as the friendly confines of Playfields has seen the Lions go unbeaten at home this season.

The Gold are four points back of first place and are the only team with a chance of catching Davis in the remaining two regular season games.

If Sacramento wins out, they have a chance to capture the league title if Davis loses both remaining games.

But as much as the Gold have to gain in their final two match-ups, they have equally as much to lose.

If Sacramento drops their next two games, it is likely they will miss out the post-season entirely with Academica SC, San Ramon FC or El Farolito taking their spot.

After visiting Davis on June 22, Sacramento travels to San Francisco on June 29 to take on last years conference champion El Farolito. A tough road to say the least.

If Davis can clinch the title against this Saturday, it will be a significant accomplishment for our local soccer community. In just 18 months, FC Davis has gone from conference newcomer to conference champion.

It will also put the team in prime position to play in the US Open Cup in 2020, one of the goals outlined for the team heading into the 2019 campaign. The US Open Cup is the oldest ongoing soccer tournament in America that features MLS, USL, NPSL, UPSL and qualifying amateur teams.

The Causeway Clasico kicks off at 7:00 PM at Playfields in Davis. Tickets are available online or at the gate!

We want everyone to be there and be LOUD!
