Two goals from FC Davis forward Wumi Aladetimi propelled the Golden Lions to a resounding 2-1 victory over Sonoma County Sol Saturday evening at UC Davis Dairy Complex.
Both teams started off well, with Davis taking the lead in the 17th minute courtesy of a slotted finish from Wumi Aladetimi only for the away side to even things up only three minutes later.
The Golden Lions dominated the remainder of the half but were unable to find a second goal as the teams went into the break tied. However, the home side wasted no time breaking the deadlock after the intermission as Wumi Aladetimi capped a brilliant run past four defenders with a well-placed finish, restoring the FC Davis lead.
The Lions went on to dominate much of the second half, creating numerous chances including a saved penalty in the 74th minute.
Despite Davis’s dominance, Sonoma was granted a glimmer of hope after two yellow cards in quick succession saw the Golden Lions reduced to ten men for the final 10 minutes. Fortunately, solid defending and a few key saves saw FC Davis through to an important home victory.
The Golden Lions will look to carry their momentum into their match next Saturday at Napa Valley 1839.
